Bubbles for Thanksgiving Dinner?

So, as I've mentioned we're hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year. Eleven adults and two kids! FUN!

We're so excited that we've made a few changes around the casa including paint and drapes. I've been finalizing our menu too.

Everyone is going to bring a few things which makes it more fun as well. I think I'm going to suggest they bring their recipes too so we don't have to worry about trading later.

In my research of recipes and fun decor for the big dinner I ran across an article that suggested serving a glass of champagne at the beginning of the meal.

Maybe because I was raised Southern Baptist, but I've never heard of this? Have any of you?

The idea is to pray over the meal, then afterwards make a toast for what each person is thankful for. Great way to start the dinner?

I think so...but I'm afraid the rest of the crew might think it's "gay". I'm still leaning on doing it and making it a tradition in our house.

Thoughts?

Also, a preview of my place cards even though I'm NOT done with them. I printed out the name part of them today and will glue them on tonight.

Thanks for the suggestions. The pumpkins work perfect in my opinion!
What are your fun Thanksgiving traditions, decor, etc? We're getting close!

I love how you say the rest of the crew may think it's gay - that's totally something I would say about Mr. ESPN ... although I think it is a cool idea and have never heard of it either (although my family is mostly Baptist and Methodist). Go for it! Tell Brad he can even toast with a beer and maybe he will think it is a little more cool!! Love your pumpkins - cute idea!!

i love the place-cards. is it weird that i am using place cards for just me and the hubs? this year, we decided to enjoy the day by ourselves, to reflect on the past year and just relax and remember my Daddy.

i think that the champers toast is a great idea! do it!

EVERYTHING IS LOOKIN' GOOD! love the "thankful" part...we all have so much to be thankful for, they shouldn't think it's gay.

I love the idea of a champagne toast. I'd do it too except for some family issues with drinking. Not me, obviously, because I think champagne is ALWAYS appropriate & welcome. :)

Cute pumpkins!!!

I love the champagne toast and I say: it's your house, you can do whatever you want! :)

The pumpkins look great! Good luck with the whole meal. Can't wait to see pics!

We don't usually make a big deal about Thanksgiving, but this year it's at my in-laws. Trey and I used to spend every Thanksgiving in Vegas. For real. Bellagio. Bloody Mary's. Watching football in the Sportsbook. In and Out Burgers. Purely Awesome! I miss that. We did it for 4 years. That was our tradition. I guess we need a new one now.

Looks soooo cute!

Actually the friends I usually spend Thanksgiving with do a champagne toast every year before the meal. So it doesn't seem strange to me at all! Chin chin!

Oh yes, honey! We Methodist believe you need to meet all your guests with a cocktail in hand to make the day go smoothly... Check out the new Southern Living Christmas 2010 book (I just got mine in the mail yesterday)...it has GREAT cocktail recipes this year. But yes - bubble before you gobble, indeed! Happy Thanksgiving!
