Saturday Night Bowling

Bowling was something I remember doing a lot as a child.
Mainly with the church youth group, then in high school and I even took a bowling class while in college at LSU.
But, even with all of that I am NOT a good bowler.
I'm lucky to knock down pins each time.
If you've been reading this blog for long you might remember we were part of a bowling league a year or so ago.
UGH..
I think I might have enjoyed it more if it had not started at 9:30pm on Thursday nights.
I'm just too old to be out bowling until 12am on a school night.
Anyway, I have not been bowling since our league ended until this weekend.
And, guess what?!
The bowling alley we always went to got a MAJOR face lift!!
New ownership, new look, new food, NEW EVERYTHING!!
Pappas Lanes is now Ten Park Lanes.
I could have taken a lot more pictures but I felt people staring at me.
Of course they didn't know I was a blogger!
HA!!
They even expanded and added decks, a porch, and an outside bar.
Brilliant!
We ordered food.
I enjoyed their fried pickles and jalapenos.
HOT! but good!
And, their pork sliders were delish as well.
We met up with Josh and Katie for our Saturday night adventure.
I had to get the usual picture of them.
And, one of us..
1st picture.
(Guy in the background)
 Take 2.
Much better.
It was the Grand Re-opening of Park Lanes so the bowling was free.
We had to wait an hour or so, but no big deal.
Katie and I traded in our cowboy boots...
 For our bowling shoes...
 Good times!
Brad is 'Mr. Competitive' with everything.
He won all three games.
Redic!
And, of course he had to have a little fun with the names on our score board.

 A very good time!
The new owners of Ten Park Lanes did an awesome job with the Grand Re-opening.
They had live music outside, beer and moonshine tastings, and food galore.
I didn't get pictures of all of it but take my word for it... a great way to spend a Saturday evening out.
I can't wait to go bowling again.
Even though I SUCK!!
HAHA!!
Happy Sunday!

Funny Foto Friday

I haven't done a 'Funny Foto Friday' in a long time and while I posted this picture a couple of years ago I think most of you haven't seen it.
It's me back in 2001 when Blues Clues came to do the weather at the Las Vegas TV station I was working at.
I LOVED Blues Clues at the time!!
In case you're wondering.. that's a 'traveling Steve'.
The real guy doesn't do these type of appearances.
Happy Weekend!

Rockin' with Van Halen

If you haven't figured it out by now.. I'm old.
Well, not old..old.. but a child of the 80's and 90's old.
Which means I grew up listening to The Police, Chicago, Daryl Hall and John Oates, and of course..
Van Halen!
So, when I originally heard that Van Halen was going on tour and stopping in Charlotte, I immediatley texted Brad!
His response?
'You're so funny, you love you some Van Halen!'

Brad has seen them twice before and isn't a huge David Lee Roth fan so he opted out of going.
What else was I to do???
Find a blog friend to go!
So, Mrs and Mister was my partner in crime.

Let's get one thing straight before I start though.
I'm generally in bed by 10pm, lights out snoozing so going out on a 'school night' is always a big deal for me, but I rallied.

We arrived at the Arena in Uptown Charlotte only to see a ton of people our age and older, many whom were wearing VH tour shirts from the past.
And, buying the new tour shirts that were on sale.
We cheaped out with our seat selection and were in the Upper Level.
(Hey! Concert tickets are expensive these days!)
After finding our seats we headed to the concession stand where we saw all kinds of characters including this guy who was trying to imitate David Lee Roth's signature moves.
 Let's put it this way...
He wasn't as graceful as DLR.
It wasn't just that guy.
Check out this character.
Decked out in his David Lee Roth type cape.

There was an entire arena of these type of people.
Very fun to watch!
Even this guy, who was literally passed out drunk BEFORE the show even started!
Talk about a light-weight!
Sara aka Mrs. thought it would be fun to pose with him!
Even his friends were taking pictures of him!
I'm sure he'll never hear the end of that!
As far as the show itself.
It was good.
They played all their old school hits including 'Running with the Devil', 'Panama', 'Jump',  and there is no question that David Lee Roth is no joke.
For 57-years old the man get around the stage and twirl some mic stands!
I also think Eddie Van Halen can still play like there is no tomorrow and it's super cool that his son Wolfgang is on tour with them, as the bassist.

Would the show be good to see if the lead was Sammy Haggar?
SURE!
Not sure that will ever happen though.

Anyway - this was a fun way to kick off the Spring/Summer concert season.
Now I'm ready to see an outdoor show!
Who else is a Van Halen fan?

Lazy Lake Weekend

My travels to Cali had me bushed!
I arrived home Friday night and Brad was sweet enough to cook dinner.
My choice.
I opted for homemade pizza and salad.
Then, we watched a little bit of TV and were both in bed sound asleep by 10pm!
Awesome Friday night after a week of travel!

I was originally scheduled to travel to Raleigh to attend a seminar to get certified to judge Miss North Carolina preliminary pageants on Saturday.
But..I just didn't feel up to it.
So, after a lazy morning, in the afternoon we decided to go to the lake.
The weather turned out nice!
 I wasn't in a swimsuit but I was in a sundress.
FIL even took our jet ski out for a spin!!
I still can't believe we were hanging out in sundresses and swimsuits on Saturday and today I had to break my winter coat and scarf back out!
What is up with this cool spurt?
Ugh..
After time on the water Brad's parents treated us to dinner and a show at their local theatre.
Not the best show I've ever seen!
But it was fun to get out of the house.

On Sunday we headed home.
The weather had turned off cool and rainy and was gross!
We did manage to venture over to BIL and SIL's house where our niece Paige couldn't wait to show me the new furniture for her room.
She's really getting to be a big girl!!
So, how was your weekend?
Is it cold again where you live??

California Trip - Paramount Ranch and Malibu

I traveled back to California last week for work, hence my absence here on the blog.
As usual, it was a long trip with LONG work hours.
12-hour days to be exact.
We didn't have time for too much except getting dinner each night and then heading off to bed.
We were basically working on East Coast time as we usually do.
But, on our last day we did have a couple of hours and we made the most of them as we traveled from Calabasas(where we were working) to our airport hotel.

As usual, while in Calabasas we had lunch next door to the Kardashian's store DASH.
So overrated!
I didn't even go in this time but couldn't resist a picture for those of you who are new here.
I'm not sure anyone really goes in there and buys anything.
It's funny to watch the people drive by and takes pictures then leave.
As I've mentioned before the place is super pricey for cheap made clothing.
After lunch and a bit more work we left the office and out of the burbs.
We decided on taking Malibu Canyon from Calabasas to the beach.
A scenic drive.
When stopping at an overlook to take a picture I spotted a condom wrapper.
Nice or what?
 Yes, I need a tan.
On our drive we saw signs for Paramount Ranch.
We decided to stop not knowing what it was.
It's a CA State Park now but was and still is used for filming movies and TV shows.
Movies dating back to the 1930's have been filmed in this faux Western town.
 Including Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.
Very neat for a nerd like me.
There was also a ton of hiking trails in and around the park that I would have loved to have ventured onto.
I just wonder if John Wayne was ever on this set?
Of course, I had to visit the Saloon!
 It was closed.
HA!
Afterwards we headed towards the beach.
 Beautiful Malibu!
I was just waiting to see Brody Jenner, but no luck.
The houses on the beach are very nice as to be expected.
Always sunny and a little bit chilly in Malibu though.
My San Diego pal, Christina, suggested we eat at Gladstones on the beach.
Such a great view and food.
A perfect way to end a work-filled trip!
So, there you have it!
Nothing too exciting but at least we got to see 'something' and have dinner on the water.
I was exhausted when I got home, as you can imagine!
More on our weekend tomorrow!
CIAO!
