Baby Showers

This post may offend some of you but oh..well.. so be it..

Baby showers -- I know they're a part of life but I'm going to admit it I don't like them. Maybe it's because I don't have children and have been single for a long time but they drive me crazy.

The last one I was invited to I went, took my gift and left before all the saga of gift opening. Terrible.. but true..

I know I'm not the only one who thinks this way because my co-worker told me that when she gets an invitation these days she sends a gift but declines the shower. You GEAUX girl! haha!

I'm posting about this because I got an invitation to a shower for a friend this week. A friend who already has 2 other children. Seriously... a baby shower for a 3rd child? I totally understand for the first but give it a rest.

Why not pass on the shower and do a Sip and See for babies born after the first? Those I don't mind..
What is your stance on baby showers? Love them..hate them...deal with them?? What about showers for 2nd, 3rd even 4th children?

Not a fan of second showers but first are essential. You aren't going to have one when you get pregnant? I loved mine and I'd do it again without question.

OK, I was SO like that before I had kids. I had trouble getting prego so it was painful for me to go. it was actually easier for me not to go for myself and my friends trying to protect my feelings.

You know, after you get married, you will feel the same way about wedding showers. They are mostly a beating.

I totally agree about Sip N See's! I think it is a great idea!

Definately need a shower for #1, but not sure about #2 and more...

It is considered tacky to have a baby shower after your first one is born. You could definitely do a sip & see or a sprinkle, but not another shower.

I'm totally over baby showers. Mr. Potts & I aren't having children & that is a choice we've made, but do you think anyone is going to throw us a puppy shower when we decide to get another dog? Doubtful. I begin to feel a little resentful about all of these. Especially when I give a thoughtful gift & just get barely an email Thank you. I mean, reallY????

Sorry, stepping off my vent box now. :)

I agree with Mrs. Potts.

Shower for the 1st baby. Sip and See's (no gifts, please) for the others.

And I'm definitely not a fan of silly games at the showers. I don't want to look at a diaper with some sort of baby food on it and guess what it is. Seriously?!?!? No thank you. To each his own. But not for me.

Loving your honesty! I have kids and showers are a beating... ha!

First kid, for sure have a shower. 2nd kid; I can only see you having a shower if it's a different sex... like me for example; I had two. But a 3rd, HECK no would I even ask anyone to get us a damn thing.

I like the Sip N See idea... very cute!

yes, imp. for first just like a wedding shower...but second and third..eh...depends on how far apart the kids are, if it's a different sex. my friend just had a second shower but it was a girl this time and her family really wanted to do it even though she didn't.
sip and sees are great and my sister had a second shower but it was a diaper and wipes shower so it wasn't a lot of hoopla all over again.
at one of my showers...i didn't even open gifts b/c i hate opening gifts in front of everyone...

Yeah I didnt have games either and had lots of wine. But not all baby showers are totally lame.

Also agree first babies need showers, but after that??? I remember mom did NOT want one when she had Blake, but since it had been so long since ME (15 yrs), her friends insisted... I like on kelley's corner how all of her friends do a diaper "lunch" thing for the 2nd, 3rd. They just go to lunch and bring diapers and wipes for the mom.

I think they are essential for first child. I agree sip and see for second (even though one of mine threw a surprise one for me with our Bunco group - basically we had Bunco plus baby gifts). Games are totally optional - I have been to some with and without games. I agree they can get over the top but hopefully one of your good friends or SIL Robyn will throw one for you that really suits you (when the time comes).

I deal with them. Except the one time JD and I were invited to a CO-ED shower and he was guilted into going, only to have them SEPARATE the guys and the girls into different rooms like we were in junior high or something! Neither of us knew anyone but the couple having the baby, so we had no one to talk to and it was torture knowing he was in the other room but I couldn't freakin talk to him! And THEN the girl opened presents for over an hour and a half! UGH!!!! Sorry, I'm apparently still a little bitter about the fact that we had to endure that. So vent away, I feel your pain!

I'm with you - I used to DETEST baby showers - but now that I am prego I am thinking I won't mind them as much. And I am looking forward to having my own (but I also agree with you - we prob. won't have a shower for our 2nd baby and so on - that's just stupid!). At least at my shower I will have bottles of champagne on hand for my girls! ;)

As a single gal with no children...I have given A LOT of gifts and paid A LOT of money to be in weddings and go see babies. I am over it all!!! I am hoping to go on a mission in the next year or two and am hoping that all of these people will reciprocate by supporting me on my mission. I have gotten into arguments with people about no shower for second babies, they are a big no no in my book (and probably Emily Post's.)

What the hell is a Sip and See??? I need to know these things so I don't embarrass myself in public.
