Me A Runner?

First things first.

Go and congratulate my blogging buddy Cindy on her completing a half-marathon in Arizona this weekend. She's a REAL runner!

Woohoo!!
So, as for me -- I'm going to a place I said I would never go. I'm trying to convert to running instead of high-speed walking for exercise.

Who would have thunk?

I ran cross country one year in high school and wasn’t a fan. Probably because I was the last one ‘in’ all the time. Other than that though my anti-running philosophy has come through my years of yoga and hearing my one instructor talk about how bad it is for your joints.

So, therefore – I have stuck to walking and I really enjoy it. So, my effort to switch to running is nothing more than a way to challenge and push myself to get my ass back into shape.

To help motivate me -- Brad, and I(along with a group of friends),have decided to run The Cooper River Bridge Run down in Charleston, SC in April. It's a 10K.

So, I started ‘training’ if you will, this weekend. I ran/jogged on the treadmill Saturday and yesterday for starts. I’m not going to lie – I did walk about 5 minutes of the 30 but I think it’s a pretty good start.

But..I’m not at that point yet where I look forward to going to the gym and running like I did with walking. I hear all these runners talk about the RUSH, endorphins, etc. but I’m not there yet.
Granted it has only been 2 days. My question is – when will that addiction kick in so I can drop 10-pounds still eating the same things I eat now?? HAHAHA!!

Really though. For those of you who run – are you addicted?

Wish me luck bloggies! I hope I can stick to this! I'm pretty sure I can -- it's all about the mind!!
Happy Tuesday!

Thanks for the shout out Dee - you are so sweet! As for the addiction - 98% of the time I don't have it. I have a love hate relationship with running. I think because it is a challenge I keep doing it - it nevers gets really easy for me. I did get that rush after completing the half marathon last weekend. It helps that Mr. ESPN was training too - we sort of used it as a competition to motivate each other. Awesome that Brad is doing it too! Just take it easy - find a training schedule online and use it. There are tons .. that's what I did for my race. Just a note - running outside is different from the treadmill so once it warms up, I encourage you to run outside. Maybe the Budster can run with you! Wished I lived near you so we could run together!! Keep me posted on your progress - e-mail me your cell phone number and I can text you when you need motivation!!

You go girl! I don't like running but it is a fast way to get in shape. Have you ever heard of The Couch to 5K?

Run, Dee, Run!!!

I did some 5k once, many years (and pounds!) ago, but knowing that the race was always looming was GREAT motivation for me to exercise.

I've done two half marathons and numerous 5ks. I didn't get the high except at the two half marathons. My first one I trained with a group and it was my first time ever to run over a mile. I cursed it every time. It was a love/hate relationship. I kept going back b/c of the high after and during the race. I haven't run in a while and I am trying to get back into it (not sure why?). I am aiming for a 5k in one month! YIKES! I better get going.
Doing it with a group is good for a first timer and esp. with Brad. The hubs and I did it together and it was nice to have a buddy going through the same thing. We never actually ran together though. He was much faster than me. ;)

I wish I was a runner. I have major knee issues, so it is not in my cards. I would love to say that I am! So exciting that you are one!

GOOD LUCK!!! I used to be a runner but haven't done it as much lately as I would like. I always say I'm going to use the bridge run as motivation but it always passes me by and I don't do it. I need to step it up! You can be my motivation! :)

so funny that you posted about this! I TOO am going to start running...starting tomorrow morning. I hate running, like despise it with a passion! But, I have a bunch of friends here that talk about all of the benefits and am inspired. We'll see how it goes..I'm actually looking through ipod touch apps right now to see if I can find anything fun. GOOD LUCK! and keep me posted!

Good Luck!! I just found your blog but I am so glad I did! I am trying to "become a runner" too but I haven't been able to stick to it. I think picking a race and having a date is an awesome motivator.

I have never been a fan of running. If I do it for too long my feet go numb. It is really odd. But I can spin for hours. And I am addicted to it. I spin 3-4 times a week. There is definitely a rush when you think you just can't go anymore but you do. And then you feel great for the rest of the day.

We run tons in boot camp. Our trainer says the fastest way to shed those lbs are to sprint/walk/sprint/walk.
I love running. Makes me happy. We're doing a 5k soon. I'm hoping Haylee will run it with me. :)

Good luck! You can do it!

I have a love/hate relationship with running too! I'm not sure I've ever experienced that "high"! Except when I finish the run :)

Good luck - you can do this!! My advice? Run outside. It's much different than running on a treadmill because you have to set your own pace, but there's so much more to look at and it always takes my mind off how tired I am!
Running in Charleston, SC?? What could be better??? Sounds awesome!
