Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving is a month away and Brad and I are hosting!

I hosted Turkey Day dinner several times when I was single but to be honest I just served the honey baked ham that my TV station would give to me as a "bonus". Then Mom and I would throw some sides together.

I would set a nice table but it was with my everyday dishes and it was boring.

Now that I'm married and have china it makes it fun! Brad and I are already planning our menu and I plan to test some recipes in the next few weeks just as a trial run. I want to make my Grandmother's dressing but geez louise..When I heard how involved it is I'm not so sure.

Soooo... saying that. Send me your dressing/stuffing recipes please!

Some of you know that I'm real into table settings from my Easter dinner. Check it out here.

As far as my Thanksgiving table decor. I'm still trying to decide.

I'm leaning towards these place cards. Simple and elegant if you ask me.

As far as centerpieces to go with the pear? I like this but it's not very fallish. Or do you think?

I like this too but aren't fresh flowers better?

I'm hoping crafty Ms. Allison will weigh in. You have to check out her blog. Her creativity is to die for.
So, what do you think? Any other Fall centerpiece or place card ideas that you suggest?
Happy Fall Ya'll!(yes, I know I said that in the last post too but this is my favorite season)

I love the pear with the place card - elegant but still a little casual - which I like. As far as the centerpiece - could you mix in some fall flowers with some gords & or pumpkins??

I love the pears as place cards! And you can still use the fruit and flower idea for centerpieces.

Or, maybe if you use red apples as place cards you can do it with fall colors?

I love to take small pumpkins, and make them candle holders - use an apple core-er thingy to core the pumpkin in the middle, then stick a tapered candle in it! I bet you'll have a yummy meal, can't wait to see what you do!

I tried to make my granny's dressing once too, it is alot of work. Love the pair. I am all about gourds/pumpkins for decor or pomagranites...mix that in with basic candles. Or go with that flower arrangement but darken the colors just a bit

Thanks for the props, lady!

Love the pear placecards. I've been working on ideas for a Thanksgiving candy/dessert buffet since we're hosting again this year. Yeah!!

Check the grocery store for flowers. I have seen some of the prettiest color combos lately. Another fun idea for a centerpiece is to use several lanterns...I just bought a good sized one at World Market and have seen some at Ikea...and put candles in them and some moss. You could even scatter more pears around them down the center of the table. You might could find darker pears to use as well.

Did all that make sense? Ha!

You are way ahead of me! The pears are lovely. In the past I used green apples with gold ribbon. I've also hollowed out a pumpkin as a vase for fall flowers. I actually put mine in a glass vase and put that into the pumpkin so that they would last.

I guess I'd better get busy and start planning for the holidays ;)

I used Pioneer Woman's stuffing recipe last year and liked it. I always add pecans, too.

Love the simple pear idea. Perhaps use the inspiration you found, but tweak the colors a bit. I always think "orange" during Thanksgiving.

Great ideas, Dee!

I have not even started to think about Thanksgiving yet. But in the past I always steal table decorating ideas from Pottery Barn catalogs. They are full of ideas that can be easily copied.

You can still use the little leave name tag but put it on an apple or a mini pumpkin to make it more "fall." Also, have you checked out Paper Source? They have really cute placecards! I haven't even thought about Thanksgiving and I'm usually very excited about it. We get back from our honeymooon two days before so I'm just showing up this year and eating. I'll have to start baking and such in December.

Love the centerpieces and the pears. You could always add pomegranates...and lots of candles.

I am a stuffing snob and always have to have my Mom's San Francisco stuffing. Of course I don't know what I'm going to do this year since I'm off grains (mostly)

San Francisco Stuffing
Makes four 3/4cup servings

3 cups sourdough bread, cut into small cubes
3/4 cup California dried apricot halves, diced (about 4.5oz)
3/4 cup chopped celery (2 stalks)
1/2 cup pinenuts, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup chopped green onions (2 onions)
1/2 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup olive oil
1 Tbsp. fresh basil or 1tsp. dried basil
1 clove of garlic minced

In large bowl, combine sourdough bread cubes and next 4 ingredients. In a separate small bowl, combine chicken broth and remaining ingredients. Sprinkle liquid mixture over bread mixture and toss to mix.

I like the pears. Could you find the deep red ones? That may be a little more "fall".

I like the flowers, but I'd probably try to find something that had some reds/oranges in it. I love the fall colors, though!
