In just 3-days Shelby, my Mom and I will be in the air on our way to Baton Rouge!
I can't even begin to tell you just how excited I am!
Not only will my brother and nieces and nephews get to meet Shelby for the first time(they live there), but it is also LSU's Homecoming and months ago I started planning a sorority reunion tailgate.
This Fall marks 20-years since I pledged Delta Gamma at Louisiana State University!
While I had no interest in attending my 20th high school reunion this I am TOTALLY stoked about!
Why you ask??
I liked college much better.
So, today's post talks about what I was like in college and why I enjoyed it so much more than high school.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
First off, I moved my 10th grade year of high school from Baton Rouge to Hot Springs, Arkansas.
I moved to AR and somehow became part of the 'cool crowd' and was part of all sorts of organizations, dated a ton, was big time into pageants and dance, but I always remember having to 'work at fitting in and keeping friends'.
I think the reason why is because I never really got the small town thing.
All I did from the moment we moved to AR was dream of heading back to Baton Rouge to all my friends I had left behind.
So, that's what I did when I got my diploma in hand.
I headed straight back to Baton Rouge!
I moved into the freshman, all-girls dorm with my childhood best friend and joined a sorority.
Delta Gamma.
From day one I really fell into a new way.
I was able to be myself and never felt that I had to 'work' to keep friends.
Everything was easy, fresh, new and fun.
I was so eager and excited about college and sorority life that my best friend still tells the story about how I wanted to be the head of the Homecoming committee and help build our sorority float for the parade!
HAA!!!
I was very involved in sorority life.
I held several leadership positions and made life long friends to boot.
Many of whom I'm still best friends with to this day.
That's what makes this weekend's reunion tailgate so exciting!
Most of us are married with kids now and haven't seen each other in several years.
College life was a blast.
The legal drinking age was still 18 in Louisiana at the time and remained that way until 6-months before I turned 21.
This didn't help my grades my first semester but eventually I learned balance and went on to do an internship every semester beginning of my sophomore Spring semester until the semester I graduated.
That's when I was hired full-time by the local TV station I had been interning and working at part time.
I was pretty lucky but there's no doubt I worked hard for that full time job.
I worked many a weekends for free during college just to learn how to produce TV news.
I continued to live in Baton Rouge for a year after graduating from LSU then I had stars in my eyes.
That's when I left BR behind and headed West.
But even though I left BR, there is and always will be a spot in my heart for Tiger Town.
I love it and all the memories that were made there and can't wait to be back there this weekend!!!
GEAUX TIGERS!!
I enjoyed all your pictures. I loved college too, it really is such a fun time.
Very impressed that you work to learn the ropes of your career. All I did in college was drink and kiss boys. xo
I love love college. I was very fortunate that when I moved across the world, I started in college. Everybody have a fresh start. I couldn't even imagine how hard it would have been to go to high school here. Seems like, lots of issues and meanness.
I've made true friends from college and we've shared a lot of ups and down. What a great post this is!
I loved this post!! I learned so much. :)
