Name Change
Well, it's official. I got my social security card in the mail yesterday and it reads DeAnna Leigh Stephens.
I opted to go with my middle name instead of my maiden. Is that what most people do?
Anyhoo.. WOW! it's quite the process getting all my accounts switched over! You're talking about drivers liscense(which was set to expire this year anyway), bank accounts, credit cards, insurance, cell phone account, air mile accounts, etc...........
I talked to a group of girls from my Junior League group and they told me...you finally just quit trying to change everything because it gets to be too much.
What did you ladies do?

I go by my maiden for my middle. Texas let me do this on my license. Colorado, too. Kansas? Not allowed. I'm guessing each state is different.
It looks weird to me now to see my birth given middle name on my license after 10 years of having it otherwise. Oh, well!
Changed everything and complained during the process - what a pain it was! I kept my middle name too but would have liked to keep my maiden as my middle instead - but my FIL attorney told me to legally change it I had to do all this crap (which for this I don't think you have to) so I opted not to. Instead I named Chatty my maiden name - Lacey. Plus my middle name fit with my married name - Cynthia Marie Donatelli - how Italian does that sound (like a big fat Italian mom if you ask me) and I only married an Italian!
Ok after reading Casey's maybe my FIL was speaking for PA and the northeast where they live and he practices law!
I kept my middle name
I kept my maiden name. I had never even heard of using your middle name. I always assumed you kept your maiden. But, I have several friends that dropped their maiden and use their middle name.
I thought having my maiden name still intact made the whole name changing easier. People could still see that name if they were to question any accounts or whatever.
Still - it was such a PAIN!! One of the biggest hassles of getting married by far.
My middle name is my maiden name--I think it's a Louisiana thing :) But here in Flordia, most people keep there middle name.
I kept my middle name & dropped my maiden.
I've changed most things, but I still have a few to take care of.
Dee...we've been married almost four years and I just changed my name on my bank account about a month ago, still have credit cards in my maiden name and only legally changed my name (with social security and DMV) about a year ago! I used my maiden name as my new middle name.
I debated long and hard on this, but ended up with my middle name. Thats wierd some states won't let you?! I just now changed my cell phone account to my new last name, of 5 years. It is such a pain, and of course the women get stuck with it!HA
