It's official! Carnival Season has begun. Of course, I don't live in South Louisiana anymore but it's always fun to celebrate it here on the East Coast!
I'm not one of those people who decorates my house for it or anything but I do like to partake in a few things that remind me of growing up down there. Such as the King Cake!!
As if I have nothing better to do right now -- I'm seriously thinking of trying to make my own king cake this year!
Click on the photo below for the recipe. The one thing I would do different is add a filling to mine..always my fav.. cheecake..AND..I would make my icing cream cheese frosting.
What do you all think? Good idea? YAY! When I worked at the TV station in Baton Rouge viewers would bring in a King Cake a day for us. Talk about putting on weight!
I haven't been to Mardi Gras since 2001. It was that year I decided if I did ever go back it would be to hang out at my friend Renee's house on Canal for the Saturday parade.
Why you ask? ahh.. a bathroom without a line. Also, not all the chaos of parking, etc.. All of that is just too much for me.
The below pictures wasn't from my last Mardi Gras but one from the year I graduated from LSU.
Too funny! That old guy was the Dean at LSU at the time and we totally ran into him on Bourbon Street! We had to get a photo.
That's it for now! TGIF!

Never been, ALWAYS wanted to go to Mardi Gras. Been to NOLA on a family vacation...well we stopped in for a day on our way to Mississippi. Total waste since I was like 16 and didn't really know of all the cool places, etc. We went on some river boat tour for crying out loud. And the only thing I really remember is seeing some dude pee on Bourbon Street.
Not me - I totally order my king cakes from Randazzo's, Gambino's or Haydel's!
More power to you if you make your own - just let me know how it turns out. :)
I've never been, but the KING Cake looks yummy!
How fun! I've never been either but the hubs has and had a blast of course. One day I'll have to do it. I've actually only been to NO once, and only for a day and a half; it was fun though.
Good luck on the cake!
I have never been. But have always wanted to. Especially if we could have a room with a balcony over Bourbon St and people watch.
That would be the best, and probably the only way I would do it now.
And hell yes, try to make a King Cake WITH cream cheese filling and icing. YUMMY!!
Tony went in college and has told me hilarious stories. One involving some celeb at the time throwing beads with a medallion to a topless girl. Tony intercepted and got hit in the forehead with the medallion. And bled all over everybody.
That King Cake looks YUM! Love your idea.
Love Mardi Gras.......such good memories! Blake and I throw a crawfish boil each year.....not sure if we will this season, but have always enjoyed it!
Love me some King Cake. Hate to get the baby since you have to bring the next cake and I usually wind up buying an extra one for the house. I go every year to Mardi Gras since I live in the area. All our family and friends gather at my grandma's house in Mid-City New Orleans for the Endymion parade. She lives one block off the parade route. We all bring a dish/alcohol/you name it and have a grand ole time. Let me know when you are in town during carnival season and I'll bring you and Brad along. No line for the bathroom....Amen sista!! Just make sure you have your feather boa and jester hat...important staples to have during the parade. :)
