Infant Survival Swim

I'm not sure about the rest of you Moms, or Moms to be out there, but I had never heard of Infant Survival Swim until a friend of mine mentioned.
HOLY SMOKES is all I have to say.
I'm talking about it today over at the Junior League of Charlotte blog.

We did these with James the week we moved to FL. He got the float part down in two weeks, since he wasn't walking our instructor recommended coming back for part two - swim float swim when he was walking. We're going back at the end of August. It's awesome to see them advance so quickly!

I was never interested in swim lessons at month 2 like so many others. I was entirely more in favor of lessons around age 3 when they can comprehend what is going on and use these skills realistically. We found great schools for our kids and they were diligent about water safety - even having the children jump in with their street clothes on to understand what water felt like in a panic situation.

Maybe I'm old fashioned. I'm still learning!

A friend of mine did this with her kids - they have a pool and have a beach home as well. The kids are absolute whizzes in water now, even during their "Winter Drill" where they got thrown in the deep end in a parka and boots. It's surely not for the faint of heart, but those kids are educated now!
