Trick or Treat on LSU's Sorority Row

As I've made it very well known here on this blog, I love LSU, and I also love my sorority, Delta Gamma.

So, what's better than being able to take Shelby down to the Red Stick and be able to trick or treat on sorority row?!?!

They've been doing this for several years and it's a huge hit because sorority row is positioned on the lakes that surround the University and it's just beautiful.

Not to mention, it's fun for the adults and kids!

Everyone participates including the LSU cheerleaders, dance team and even Mike the Tiger himself!!

Shelby wasn't sure at first what was going on, even though we did this last year, but it sure didn't take her long!

One of the first stops was the Dee Gee house!

As you can imagine, this is a very popular event. 

Hundreds, maybe even a thousand people show up.

It's so fun, that it has coincided with Homecoming the past 2-years.

I'm hoping that it will be the same this next year.

We went with my best friend, her sister and a few other people then proceeded to see all sorts of friends and sorority sisters.

We even saw a few of the Golden Girls!

The older girls were smitten!

It was nearly 90-degrees that day, and I was so glad Shelby didn't have a hot costume.

The little German dirndl she wore, was actually mine at her age.

My Dad was stationed in Germany so it's a legit outfit.

And you know what? 

There were no other kids with her costume!

Shelby quickly got into receiving candy and wanting to eat it right then and there!

My niece gave her a few pieces along the way, and it was on.

She was WIRED after several mini candy bars, Airheads and Twizzlers.

I was a bit annoyed, but realize it is what it is.

There were dozens of Elsas and Olaf's to be seen.

But this was by far the best costume we saw out there.

Believe it or not, I even ran into my very first boyfriend who I started dating at age 14 and dated off and on all throughout college.

We're still in touch and friends.

He was with his nephew and 3 young children.

As I mentioned earlier, I was out there with my best friend who happened to have twins back in the Spring.

How cute are baby Colette and Caleb??

My Mom just LOVES this event, even if it was more work doing it with a toddler versus a 10-month old.

Our day ended back at the Dee Gee where they had cookie decorating for children of alumnus.

As if she needed any more sugar!

HA!

Fun day, fun event, can't wait until next year!!

Home Sweet Home Louisiana

Hello Friends!

I've got a ton of catching up to do not only with this blog, but many of your blogs too.

I took a bit of a break with my trip down to Louisiana then recuperating from it.

Brad and I knew the month of October was going to be nuts, but I have to admit, it was more crazy and hectic than I anticipated.

We're both vowing to stay put for the rest of the year after a wedding in Greensboro next weekend.

So, onto the topic of this post, recapping my trip back home to South Louisiana.

I made this same trip last year with my Mom and just loved it.

I'm pretty sure LSU Homecoming will now be an annual thing for me and Shelby.

This year we traveled in on Thursday evening and we ended up staying with my brother and niece Holly.

In pure Dee fashion, we had a packed agenda on Friday!!

Top on the list was to take Shelby to see LSU's Mike the Tiger for the very first time!

This is a big deal for LSU fans.

His habitat was revamped my Senior year of college and it's just beautiful.

 Mike was actually out and laying in the shade.

We got a pretty good view of him!

 I think Shelby was pretty taken with the whole experience probably because I made such a big deal about it.

Not to sound cheesy but I really was very excited about it!

I truly love LSU!

 Shelby was pretty shy around my brother Wes unless we were out and about doing things.

Then she was all about him.

Made his day..

 After a lunch of hushpuppies, crawfish tails and etoufee we decided to drive out to one of my favorite places in South Louisiana.

Nottoway Plantation in White Castle, Louisiana.

About 30-minutes from Baton Rouge, it's the largest remaining plantation home in the South and I just happened to work here my sophomore year of college.

 I was a tour guide on the weekends and just loved it!

Nottoway was a wedding venue and a small bed and breakfast back in the 90's, but the place is a full out resort now with a spa, inn and more.

What a gorgeous setting to get married, right?!

 Truly a fun afternoon!!

Not to mention, gorgeous weather!!

After putting Shelby down for the night my Mom and I ventured down into the bayou town of Maurepas to hear my nephew and his girlfriend perform.

Always fun to hear them at one of their 'gigs'

 

A fun start to the weekend.

The next day was JAM PACKED with LSU Homecoming, the game against Ole Miss where we WON!!

Charlotte's SEC Kickoff Party 2014

It's one of my favorite times of the year!!!

The kickoff to college football week!!

The LSU Tigers take on Wisconsin this weekend in the season opener and Shelby and I will be decked out in our purple and gold!

In anticipation of football season the alumni groups for all the SEC teams here in Charlotte get together and throw a big tailgate kickoff party.

Aside from the LSU crawfish boil, it has turned into one of our favorite events to attend every year.

This year we had planned to take Shelby again but it just so happened that my parents were in town with my niece and offered to babysit and let us go sans kid.

It worked out well because it was super hot and the party is outside.

Despite the heat we had a pre-party cocktail at one of Charlotte's hottest new rooftop restaurants, Fahrenheit.

Super cool and we can't wait to go back for dinner.

The view is amazing!!

 Afterwards we made our way over to the Montford area and Park Lanes for the SEC Kickoff.

The LSU group had everything decked out.

This is such a great event because we see all sorts of friends from other schools.

Including Jr. League friend and morning anchor at WBTV, Christine Nelson and weather woman, Ashley Beatty.

 We also ran into Brad's cousin and VOL fan and alumni, Katie.

Remember, we went to her wedding back in May up in Virginia.

 We spent a majority of our night with our favs, Sara and her husband Thom and our friends Katie and Josh(not pictured).

Giving we rarely go out sans Shelby we made the most out of it and even took Uber home.

Good times for all, I'm ready for some football!!!

LSU Alumni Crawfish Boil 2014

This past Saturday was the annual LSU Alumni Carolinas Crawfish Boil.

It's held every May and it's an event that Brad, even being a Hokie, looks forward to as much as I do.

Nothing better than hot boiled crawfish, sausage, corn, potatoes and an Abita beer to get your party started.

This was Shelby's 2nd crawfish boil, but her first time to actually eat one.

She loved them!

She actually loved it all!

 My brother and niece sent her the cute little Tiger dress for Christmas.

It was perfect for a sunny day in the high 80's where we spent the entire time outside.

 Our alumni group has had a group out of Georgia cater it for the last several years but this year we went with Emeril LaGasse's local restaurant E2.

 All you could eat.

We could have literally taken crawfish home if we wanted.

Local, non-LSU friends, joined us again this year.

 Neighbors Shannan and Bryan.

 A little Cajun music was in store too.

Shelby enjoyed that too.

 They had some great raffle prizes on hand again this year.

I would have loved to have won this wine glass but instead walked away with nothing.

 Even so, I walked away having had a GREAT time, despite a little rain shower that moved us inside for a brief moment.

 And Brad walked away having participated in an egg toss for the first time in years and years..

 And, he lost.

Everyone claims it's because he refused to put his beer down but he says Josh was the one to drop the egg.

HAA!

Another crawfish boil in the books!

It was a blast!
