Remember at the beginning of the year when I told ya'll that I was done with Facebook and wasn't sure I would ever sign back on?
Well, my hiatus lasted nearly 6-months but this week I caved and logged back on.
The break was WONDERFUL for me personally.
It helped me focus more on me, my marriage and what life it suppose to be about.
During those months though I kept hearing friends and family say things like this:
* You need to get back on FB! We miss not knowing what's going on in your life!
(my reaction: read the blog and you'll know)
* You need to get back on FB and you would know these things.
(when I wouldn't know that someone had gotten married or divorced, etc.)
* Why aren't you on FB? What's wrong?
(my reaction: I need a break from the drama. None of your beeswax)
And, it was TRULY.AMAZING the people I had not talked to in years but had only kept in touch through FB that came out of the woodwork to personally email, text and even CALL me to find out why I had quit FB.
That one kind of bothered me.
Not sure why, but it did.
It made me realize just how powerful FB is in our society.
I also had MULTIPLE friends and co-workers who thought I had 'blocked' them on FB.
Now, I've been known to delete a few people here and there especially when I got upwards of almost a 1,000 friends on there, but I have ever only blocked one person.
So, why did I log back on?
I did feel off the radar a bit and decided it was time to get back on and reconnect with some of the people I worked for years to make connections with.
That's both personally and professionally.
In fact, the news of me logging back on was so BIG that the Los Angeles Times even called me about it.
The article was published in today's issue and a lot of other major newspapers have picked it up as well.
WOW! What an honor to be highlighted in that article. How did they find out about you?
ReplyDeleteI really limit myself on FB now and still find myself pining away for the time when I joined it in 2004 and it was pretty much just a way to connect with people who were college friends of mine. Lots of advertisements now and I'm still not a fan of the Timeline set-up.
That is awesome !! How neat!! How did they find you ?
ReplyDeleteI am actually thinking about doing this too! My only thing is that fb is the only way I keep in touch (photo wise) with friends in louisiana. I've been trying to figure out what to do, your post is persuading me though!
& I am having a Stella & Dot necklace ($198) giveaway on my blog & would love for you to check it out :D
That is crazy!! I got off of facebook almost 18 months ago and haven't really looked back! I sure didn't make the news though!!
ReplyDeleteThat's great, Dee. Great article.
ReplyDeleteWow...I can't believe they contacted you! That is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI am with you about FB on many levels. I haven't posted an updated status in probably two years, but yet I can't seem to officially delete my account. I put everything on my blog now. FB really has turned in to a world of its own, and I'm not sure I love the way everyone handles it. It can be a bit much. :)
Have a great weekend!
You are so cool, but I already knew that! I hope you find FB more enjoyable this go around!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny! You are a celeb! Enjoy your 15 minutes :)
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy Dee!, I was glad to see you back on - though I completely understand the hiatus.
ReplyDeleteMakes me chuckle! Did you get a copy of the article...would be fun to look back when you're 70.
ReplyDelete:)
