Kale Stays In

I've been hearing people rave about kale for months now but had yet to run across any.
Yesterday that all changed when I made my first visit to Charlotte's new 7th Street Public Market.
The market is full of local vendors who grow their own food, make their own wines, raise their own meat.
It's a year-round Farmer's Market per-say.
So, it was there that I saw fresh kale and knew I had to buy some.
Cheap too.
An entire bag for $1.36.

I mentioned on Twitter(follow me here if you wish) that I had bought kale for dinner and A Liz stepped up with a suggestion on how to prepare it to compliment our grilled salmon I had planned for dinner.
Saute' it with a little EVOO, lemon juice and broth.
Brad wasn't so sure about kale.
He had never heard of it but he's pretty open to new things.
His response after eating it?
'Kale stays In!'
Even Buddy likes it!
I'm pretty sure kale is our new obsession.
Aside from sauteing it I can't wait to make kale salads and prepare it other ways as well.
Have you tried kale?

  1. My neighbor makes it .. she sprays a cookie sheet with Pam and then lays the kale on it and sprinkles it with EVOO, salt and pepper and broils it for a little bit. It comes out almost like light potatoe chips - very good!

  3. WE Had Haddock and Kale for dinner last night! hahaha. I made kale chips...same ingredients- just put it in olive oil and lemon then put on baking sheet and baked- got all crispy and I added a little sea salt. I steam it for Anika. IT is a great food, but its also one of the dirty dozen foods and my local grocery is often sold out of the organic kale, so when they have it, I get a lot :) Oh, Andrew put the Kale chips in his sandwich! but they get soggy after a day I think.

  5. Kale is one of the healthiest foods you can eat, aside from spinach and broccoli! We grew up on it. I absolutely hated it. Tried making it for Andrew recently and he hated it, too. I'll have to try the chips method. :)

  13. I've heard kale is much healthier than just regular lettuce. But at the same time I hear it is very bitter. Obviously, you guys enjoyed it. I may have to try it the way you made it. Thanks for the suggestion!
