Williamsburg Weekend

Several weeks ago I knew I was going to be in the Virginia and DC area for Columbus Day so I emailed my blog bestie, I Do Declare, and we decided to meet up in Williamsburg for a little girl time!
I visited the area 10-years ago and the weather was rainy but this time the weather could not have been more perfect!
Pardon a few of my crappy pictures.
Giving that it was a holiday weekend, it was pretty crowded with groups and families.
Many of whom rented costumes to be part of the 'colonial experience'.
We, of course, opted out.
Our first stop was lunch at The Cheese Shop.
This place was highly rated and was absolute shenanigans inside.
People everywhere!
 Sandwiches and wine.
Perfect for a Fall day outside.
The food was pretty good.
I Do Declare and I had met once before but it was a quick lunch.
This time, we really got to talk and get to know each other.
So much fun!
We took an after lunch walk around Colonial Williamsburg and took in the sites.
We opted out of paying the $40 to go into each and every little shop and instead enjoyed the re-enactments and people in costume/character in the town square area.
 Williamsburg is the real deal.
The goal is to make you feel like you're walking back into time.
It's no joke.
After a long walk we headed over to the Williamsburg Winery.
I never anticipated this place would be so crowded and busy!
All of their tastings were sold out!
It is 'crush' season though.
Instead of leaving we simply bought a bottle and headed over to one of their picnic tables on property.
Oh, had to throw in that the winery, and Williamsburg in general, are very dog friendly!
We must have seen 5 or 6 beagles during our weekend.
This one is named Rambo and he's a fan of the Cal Bears.
No wine for him though.
Later in the evening, we enjoyed dinner at The Blue Talon.
Charming and great food.
The next day we woke up and headed out for a power walk from our hotel to and through Colonial Williamsburg.
Where it seemed even more people were out and about in costume.
Many of whom, were getting their Sunday meals prepared.
Fried chicken and macaroni and cheese.
Funny story about this particular group below.
My work colleague and her family are involved in the historical re-enactments and she looked at these pictures and said they're from the Charlotte area.
Small world!
 The town cobbler.
A fun way to spend a weekend!
Wine, cheese, history and friends.
Check out I Do Declare's blog for her recap!
Tomorrow, I'll be back with my 24-hours in DC where I met the most recent Congressional Medal of Honor Winner!
Only, the second living recipient to receive it.

I've always wanted to go there. I was big into the American Girls Dolls growing up and loved the stories about Felicity growing up in Colonial Williamsburg. Wine and sandwichs sound so good right now and it is only 8:50 a.m.

You look presh in your hat! That pic of the grapes on the vine would be great framed in your house. :-) You could do a fun collection of all your wine photos...

I love Colonial Williamsburg. It's such a beautiful area though I haven't been in about fifteen years.

Some of the best food that I ever had was at a little "tavern" in the town.

Looks like a great time!
