Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year and it makes me crazy for baking! As I’ve mentioned I’m having a cookie exchange this weekend at our house which has turned into an annual event.
It’s an excuse to decorate the house, play Christmas music, light scented candles, hang with friends, eat poppy seed ham rolls, drink wine, and BAKE!
During the holiday season I always bake several types of cookies. My “go to” for years has been chocolate chip & pecan. Funny story about baking chocolate chip cookies.
In high school I was mixing up some cookie dough with my Mom’s mixer that was similar to today’s Kitchen Aids(on a stand). There was some dough on the side of the bowl that I decided to get off. Not using my brain I stuck my finger in there. UM…………………..Can you say OMG!!?? My finger got caught in the beaters and we literally could not get it out.
In a flash -- we were driving down the road at 100-miles an hour, with our flashers on to get me to the ER. I seriously thought I was going to lose my finger. I have never seen my Dad so freaked out!
Of course, I didn’t lose my finger but it was pretty black and blue for a week or so. Needless to say, I turn the mixer off when scrapping the side of the bowl now!
Going back to holiday baking – I’ve already been cooking up a storm in the past few weeks. I’ve made: coconut macaroons, peanut butter, chocolate chip, Hello Dolly bars and tonight I plan on making these.
Oatmeal Lace cookies
Never heard of them? Me either. The mother of Brad’s best friend from grammar school/high school sent me the recipe and said Brad used to eat them by the dozen! She calls them “Granny Lillard’s Lace Cookies”
So, I thought it would be fun and something new. I’ll let you know how they turn out. I might make some sugar cookies too since I haven’t done that this year.
I asked this question last year but what cookies do you like to make during the holidays?
Other news in Dee’s World.
I got together with my Junior League committee last night at a restaurant here in Charlotte. Fun times! Here’s a picture of a few of us.
More tomorrow! Happy Holidays!

I am going to get my bake on this weekend, too! Those lace cookies look so pretty!!!! You better keep your hands free of the mixer this year...Buddy's paws, too - hee!
Love that dress you wore to JL!
Those cookies all sound (and look) delish! Now my stomach is growling :)
Can't wait to see how they turn out (if Brad doesn't eat them all...hahaha)!

I need a good cookie recipe for a neighborhood cookie exchange I'm going to this weekend. Would you mind passing on your chocolate chip one?!
I love those cookies!!!! One of my favorite kind.
My sister stuck her finger in a hot pot of caramel cause she wanted a taste. She learned her lesson too...

Oatmeal cookies are my absolute favorite!! I'll have to try that recipe for sure. Even though I'm not a very good baker. :)
Glad you didn't lose your finger! I'm the worst about turning off the mixer before sticking my finger in the bowl. You just taught me a good lesson!
um, i dared adam to do that the other day and he did not think it was funny. :(
i want to be apart of your cookie/ornament exchange. SO FUN!
